EA started off its E3 2015 press conference with one of its most-anticipated games, Mass Effect: Andromeda. Although it didn’t reveal many details, we got to see our first trailer. And after a look at the newest Need for Speed game, EA moved on to another great RPG.
While I’m not a big fan of MMORPGs, the new expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic caught my attention. Written like a traditional BioWare RPG with choices, companions, and an emphasis on story, Knights of the Fallen Empire feels like a taste of what Knights of the Old Republic 3 could be.
EA moved from epic to adorable with a puzzle-platformer called Unravel, which stars a yarn-based protagonist called Yarny. Next up was the quirky, lighthearted third-person shooter, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2.
When it comes to the rest of the press conference, I must admit I’m not the best person to cover its announcements, because I’m not a fan of sports games. EA showed many sports games, as well as two mobile games called Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes and Minions Paradise. The final highlights were Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst and Star Wars: Battlefront, both of which are highly anticipated by fans.
On the other hand, Ubisoft’s entire conference failed to appeal to me. However, neither do Ubisoft’s games in general, so a fan of the company might have a more positive assessment of the E3 2015 press conference.
Ubisoft showed South Park: The Fractured But Whole, a four-versus-four multiplayer game called For Honor, The Crew: Wild Run, Trials Fusion: Awesome Level Max, Tom Clancy’s The Division, a city-building RTS called Anno 2205, Just Dance 2016, Rainbow Six Siege, and TrackMania Turbo.
The trailer for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate looked interesting, and the last thing featured was an open-world game, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands.
For someone who doesn’t enjoy Ubisoft’s style of games, the press conference was a slow slog through bland titles. On the other hand, EA had some great new announcements to make. Overall, these two companies had average E3 2015 shows.
