Playstation 4 FAQ – PS Vita Remote Play

The past several months, Sony has built a reputation for providing updates on its PlayStation platform, providing us with details about the system itself as well as some of the games and features we can expect.  With the launch just around the corner (November 15th), Sony took the time to answer many of the questions people had regarding the Play Station 4 console, the new DUALSHOCK 4 controllers, games and other features in an extensive FAQ blog post on the PlayStation Blog.

I took the time to read through the blog in detail and will be highlighting the details in a series of posts leading up to release date.

Playstation 4 – PS Vita Remote Play

One of the features looked forward to by PlayStation fans was the ability to remote play games using their PS Vitas.  Remote play will allow users to stream their PS4 gameplay to the PS Vita system, using WiFi, thus freeing up the television for other uses.  Sony Computer Entertainment has stated that they expect most titles will work this feature unless they require a special peripheral such as the Playstation Camera.

Remote play is stated to work the best when the Vita is in the same WiFi network that the PS4 is connected.  They also recommend that the PS4 be connected to the local area network using an Ethernet cable, that you have a router suitable for gaming and that the Vita be in close proximity of the WiFi Access point so that the connection has minimal interference.

While remote play might be able to be used outside of your LAN that your PS4 is on, Sony recommends making sure you are on the same network.  Connecting out of network will require some tweaks to your router, a stable and robust WiFi connection and a broadband internet connection.
