With two new consoles hot on the market, 2014 should be a big year for new video games. We count down some of the most highly anticipated video games and when we should see them hit the shelves!
Titanfall
Titanfall made a big splash at 2013’s E3, earning it the title of the most nominated game in the history of the Game Critics Awards. It’s an FPS that super soldiers and giant mechs and promises lots of blasting fun. We’ll find out soon enough when it is released on March 11th for Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
Tom Clancy’s The Division
The amazingly lifelike graphics alone might be reason enough to buy Tom Clancy’s The Division, but the story looks intriguing, too. It’s a part RPG, part shooter as you play a guy who is trying to fix things after a disease has wreaked havoc on the US. It supposedly will be released for the PS4, XBox One and PC by the end of 2014, but will likely be pushed back into 2015.
Mario Kart 8
Mario Kart 8 is finally coming to the Wii U this spring, hopefully helping Nintendo move a few more systems off shelves. This installment promises to be even more exciting than the previous versions with anti gravity abilities that let you drive on walls and ceilings! It will also support online mode.
Watch Dogs
Fans of this open world action adventure game that involves hacking into electronic devices were up in arms when it was announced that Watch Dogs wasn’t going to be released for the 2013 holiday season as planned. Now it is due to be released in the coming spring sometime. Hopefully it will be extra good with the extra time they had to work on it. Look for it on all of the systems (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U and PC).
Dying Light
In a sea of zombie games, Dying Light stands out as one of the more original ones. Instead of slowly making your way through and methodically taking out the zombies, you’ll find yourself running around like a crazy person, jumping on rooftops and anything else you can find to battle the zombie horde in this fast paced game. It has no official release date yet, just sometime in 2014 and will be for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
Dark Souls II
The first Dark Souls was hard, like really hard, like you must be a masochist to possibly manage to beat this game kind of hard. But those who actually liked the gameplay can’t wait to get crushed by the second installment. They won’t have to wait long as it is due out on March 11th for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
The Elder Scrolls Online
People are on the fence about this one, but still can’t wait to see how it pans out. While many say that it looks like it will probably be a pretty cool MMORPG, it also comes with amonthly subscription fee of $14.99 no matter what platform you play it on and that will probably stop casual players in their tracks. We won’t have too long to see how it all goes down though as it comes out on April 4th for the PC, Mac, PS4 and Xbox One.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
They just keep making Metal Gear games and the fans just keep on playing them; because they are good. Metal Gear Solid V is actually part one of two games that are due to be put out soon, the second is called The Phantom Pain. This one is just the prologue and fans still can’t wait to play it! Lucky for them, the wait is almost over. It will be out on March 18th for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Super Smash Bros. 4
There has been speculation for years about what characters would be included in the next installment of Super Smash Bros. and now it is finally almost here. Some new characters are Megaman, Rosalina and Luma from Mario games, a villager from Animal Crossing and the Wii Fit trainer. It is due out later in 2014 for the Wii U and 3DS.
Dragon Age: Inquisition
The third Dragon Age game is due out this fall in Inquisition. It is said to combine some of the elements of the first two games in what will hopefully be a great RPG. Fans of the series are hopefull it will be more like the first game, which in their opinion was better. It will be released for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
The Order 1886
The Order 1886 isn’t quite like anything you have seen before. You will play as descendents of the Knights of the Round Table who are trained to hunt down monsters in 19th century London. It’s a little steampunk and a lot awesome. Snag a copy and see for yourself this fall. It is exclusive to the PS4.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an RPG said to be larger than Skyrim. Try to wrap your mind around that for a moment and then start clearing your schedule starting this spring when it will be released for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Infamous: Second Son
Infamous: Second Son is one of the flagship games for the PS4, due out on March 21st. It is set in Seattle and stars Delsin, who wields the powers of smoke and fire. It’s set in an open world so you get plenty of chance to flex that power.
Destiny
Destiny has a lot to live up to, begin the first game put out by Bungie Studios since Halo. So far, it has video game enthusiasts intrigued with an online world full of interstellar adventures. See for yourself on September 9th when it is released for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Transistor
Supergiant’s first game Bastion was a hit in 2011. They and their fans are hoping that Transistor will have the same success. It is an action strategy game with a super cool style. It tells the story of a young singer who owns an intelligent sword.
