The Most Anticipated Games of 2014 – Fighting & Adventure

In a survey taken in the month of December, IGN.Com asked their readers which 2014 games they were most excited for. Titles such as The Walking Dead, Titanfall and Destiny were all expected to make the list, but IGN found a few surprising titles within the list. Bringing all your favorite Nintendo characters together in a single game is what Super Smash Bros does best.  So far, 21 playable characters have been confirmed, collecting favorites from across many of Nintendo’s 1st party and 3rd party games.  Of the 21 confirmed characters, there are at least 4 new ones including Mega Man, the Wii Fit Trainer and others.  Though announced for late 2014, we have begun to see some game information leaked, including the list of characters.

Releasing in less than 14 days, Dragon Ball Z returns to consoles with the latest installment: Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z.  Bringing to life the fighting genre with the characters of Dragon Ball Z, the creators of this latest installment have featured the first video game appearance of Goku’s Super Saiyan God form. In addition to featuring dynamic boss battles, the game will also feature a four-player mode, an eight-player “Battle Royale” and online multiplayer options.

UFC hits next gen consols this spring with its latest game, UFC 2014.  Like other sports games, the yearly installments of UFC often feature changes to the game mechanics, in an attempt to make the game more realistic.  In addition to improved mechanics that bring to life fighters signature moves and improved character models, EA Sports brings female fighters to the game.

The first Episode of Tell Tale’s The Walking Dead Season 2 is already available for play.  And if the reviews of “All That Remains” are anything to go by, it is going to be just as solid of a game as the first season was.  As with Season One, Season Two has you following Clementine and Lee, and you face many life or death choices throughout the game.  Picking up where Season One left of, you play this season as Clementine, the young girl who was orphaned by the zombie apocalypse.

When HBO and Telltale Games announced their collaboration to bring Game of Thrones to the studio to be released in the Telltale episodic game style that they’ve become known for.  In a multi-year, multi-title deal, HBO and Telltale’s partnership is one that many video game fans are looking forward to.  While details for this game have yet to be released, we anticipate more information to become available as the year progresses.

For the trifecta of the Adventure category, Telltale has another game that IGN readers are looking forward to.  Fans of the Borderlands series of games were pleased to hear that Gearbox Software and Telltale have teamed up to bring us Tales from the Borderlands. Said to be set in a world that is very much “Borderlands”, the game will feature Telltale’s brand of gameplay and feature existing characters in the Borderlands world as well as introduce new ones.
