In a survey taken in the month of December, IGN.Com asked their readers which 2014 games they were most excited for. Titles such as The Walking Dead, Titanfall and Destiny were all expected to make the list, but IGN found a few surprising titles within the list. Continue reading to see what the top 3 anticipated games are in each of the video game categories of action, shooters, RPG’s, horror/survival, platformers, racing, fighting, adventure, strategy/sim/tactics, and puzzles.
Platformers Category
Expected to release on the 21st of February, Donkey, Diddy and Dixie Kong are back and for the first time ever, Cranky Kong joins the adventure. Vikings threaten to wreck the homes of Kong and his friends and steal their bananas. Jump from island to island, beating back the Snowmads, as they fight to save their home and their bananas.
As the only 3DS Exclusive title on the list, Yoshi’s New Island brings Yoshi and Baby Mario back in the third game in the Yoshi’s Island series. It is platform game that plays in the same style as its predecessors, and you will recognize some of the scenery and moves within the game. Some of the changes made to the game however are the ability to swallow extremely large enemies and turn them into eggs even larger than the Giant Eggs. These eggs can be thrown, much like the Mega Mushrooms, destroying everything in their path and collecting damage that fills a meter to provide Yoshi with up to 3 extra lives.
Rayman Legends proved to be a popular game on last gen consoles, so its no surprise to see it brought over to the PS4 and Xbox One. February 21 brings us the lastest game to next gen and as platformer games go, it is one of the best. The game features some of the most amazing art seen in games today. So what kind of changes can one expect in this game for next gen? Load times are going to disappear and textures won’t be compressed, making the details and visuals even sharper than before, taking an already beautiful game to the next level.
Racing Category
Nintendo will continue to pump out consoles and exclusive games as long as people continue buying them. Fans of Zelda, Mario, and other Nintendo exclusives keep the company going. And Mario Kart isn’t without its fans. Fans of the game love it for the family friendly antics, the ability to group play and fun racing playing some of your most memorable Nintendo characters such as Donkey Kong, Princess Peach and Mario. While no official release date has been announced, rumors have it that we can expect a spring release of this title.
Originally slated for a launch day release with the PS4 in North America and Europe, DriveClub was pushed back to an early 2014 release. Featuring team based racing and a host of social features which resulted in the original delay, DriveClub promises a new element to racing games. Devs for the game state that the game isn’t a simulator like Gran Turismo or Forza Mortorsport but is more of a rival to Grid 2.
Set in an open world environment, The Crew is promised fast paced driving action in a race across the United States. In the game, you work hard to infiltrate and over take the 510’s, a gang that grew around the illegal street racing scene of Detroit. Encounter other players as you race around the country, earning a rep and sabotaging the activities of the 510’s. Expected for a Q3/Holiday release this year, The Crew promises at least 20 hours of game play in single player mode.
